Displaying your Photographs in Your Home

Choosing how to display luxury Portraits at home

It’s the little things that allude to a person lives here that makes a house a home. The row of children’s shoes (did I say row, I meant thrown across the floor), the dog leash hanging by the door, anything specific to you and your lifestyle. But there is one universal thing unique to each household that adds “homeliness” to your space and that is (you guessed it) family photographs.

It makes perfect sense to hang up pictures of those we love the most and what better way to do it than sprinkling images around your home to make your hearts happy. Memories that were once seemed unforgettable can fade over time, but portraits have a magic way of taking you right back to that moment or feeling.

Did you know, one of the unexpected benefits of having family photographs hanging on the wall is the positive effect it can have on your children’s mental health. It lets children learn who they are and where they fit. When a child sees a family portrait with them included in the photograph they say to themselves “ These people have me as part of what they are, that’s why I belong here. This is where I come from.”

Imagine your amazing portrait session is over, it’s time to decide where you are going to put your photos and what will look best in your home. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Presentation Boxes – Customized photo boxes are totally in! These are very popular amongst our clients. This is a great way to display your photos, and you can keep more prints inside or use them as a keepsake box to house your precious memories.

  • Framed on the Wall – Dress your photos up with stylish frames to match your home décor. We offer a variety of print sizes for you to choose from. You can always contact us for more details.

  • Get a Huge Canvas – Make your portrait the centre piece of your space. offer beautiful canvases stretched over varying thicknesses of wood to make it stand out depending on your preference. These photos are free-floating and do not require a frame. *When hanging photos on your wall (framed or canvas) you can choose to hang a single photo, or a group of photos in a collage to change it up.

  • Framed on Shelves, Desks, Tables – If you are renting or don’t want to put holes in your walls from prints or canvases, you can also frame your prints and place them on shelves, desks, or tables around your home. (You can also do this in addition to the wall hangings if you’d like.)

  • Albums/Coffee Table Books – If you just can’t pick out a few photos to display in your home and you need more space, you can always get an album printed up and place it on your coffee table or bookshelf. Pull it out and look through it to remember how fun your session was, and how much your family loves each other.

Here are some more tips for hanging your portraits at home:

  • Install a Picture Ledge – place your framed portraits along the ledge/shelf, by using different sizes, colours and overlapping you can create even more visual interest. You can also swap portraits out at any time to keep the display looking fresh.

  • Go big and hang it in your home. Make an impact for all to see.

  • Transform a wall into a Gallery Wall. The gallery wall is a classic and favourite of ours, so if you like it GO FOR IT! Make your collection look cohesive with matching frames and arrange your wall however it fits best. Not sure how to design a gallery wall?

  • Create a grid – put a bunch of images in square frames the same size and arrange them in a grid to create a larger much more impactful display.

  • Matting your images – most are matted in white, black or neutral matts. But did you know coloured matts make a huge impact? Choose colours that tie together with your room and the print. Using a neutral, light coloured frame will make it extremely eye catching.

  • Display in Pairs – choose two pieces that feel they should belong together, ensure they are the same size and mounted in identical frames. Then hang them together for a wonderful pair. Got a narrow space? Hang them vertically.

  • Wondering how to display a lot of photos? – Some frames are large enough to include lots of photographs. They are often smaller than usual but the result is a wonderful colourful collage of your favourite photographs.

  • Mix n match frames – if you choose to do a gallery wall, why not have some fun with your frames? Mix some wooden materials with gold-painted or metallic material so you have a gallery wall as eclectic as your tastes.
